Sanjeev Goyal is professor of economics at the University of Cambridge and fellow of Christ’s College, Cambridge. He is a fellow of the British Academy and a fellow of the Econometric Society. He was the Founding Director of the Cambridge-INET Institute (2012-2014) and Chair of the Economics Faculty at the university of Cambridge (2014-2018). Before going to Cambridge, he was professor at the University of Essex, Queen Mary University of London, and Erasmus University. He has had visiting positions at Columbia University, London School of Economics and MIT, among others.

Sanjeev Goyal is a pioneer and leading international scholar in the study of social and economic networks. His book, "Connections: an introduction to the economics of networks", published in 2007 by Princeton University Press, has been widely used in graduate courses on the economics of networks. Sanjeev’s research work is in the theory of networks. His current interests include the formation of identities, and the transmission of information and exchanges through networks. His papers have been published in the American Economic Review, Journal of the European Economic Association, Econometrica, Review of Economic Studies and the Journal of Political Economy.

His has supervised more than 20 students and post-doctoral fellows throughout his career. He obtained his Ph.D. in economics in 1990 from Cornell University.
